Description |
This rectangular banner commemorates the election of Louie B. Nunn as Governor and Wendell Ford as Lieutenant Governor. It is a red cotton banner with white painted lettering and stars "WELCOME / LOUIE / AND / WENDELL." There are three white stars spaced above the letters. The word "WELCOME" is arrange in an arch-like shape. There are five stars painted below the text. The top of the banner is trimmed with a white canvas hoist that has a brass grommet on each end to suspend the banner. |

Louie Broady Nunn (1924-2004) was the 52nd governor of Kentucky. His election in 1967 made him the first Republican to hold that office since the end of Simeon Willis' term in 1947, and the last to hold the position until the election of Ernie Fletcher in 2003. Nunn's lieutenant governor was Democrat Wendell Ford. Wendell Hampton Ford (1924-2015) served for twenty-four years in the U.S. Senate and was the 53rd Governor of Kentucky. He was the first person to be successively elected lieutenant governor, governor and United States senator in Kentucky history. |
