Description |
This is a Hobnail safe. It is a wooden safe covered with criss crossed strips of sheet iron and heavy wrought iron knobs. The piece has swiveling wrought iron handles on four sides. The front has lock with skeleton keyhole and brass knob. |
Notes |
The original owner of this safe was Henry Timberlake Duncan (1800-1880) of Paris, Kentucky. Duncan was a lawyer who began practice in 1822. He operated a hemp factory in Paris and raised cattle and sheep. This safe was likely constructed from Kentucky-made iron. |
