Description |
This is a Kentucky State Guard greatcoat. It has a full length cadet gray wool shell. An integral cape is attached below the fold down collar. There are seven large brass KY state seal buttons on the front (top and bottom button missing) on main coat. There is a watch pocket on the main coat. There are six small brass KY state seal buttons on the front on cape (third down missing) and two small brass KY state seal buttons on the collar. There is blue wool piping on the collar, facing of cape, and on the cuffs. The torso of the coat is lined with red wool. The sleeves are lined with natural cotton. The tails of the coat are split, each decorated with flap of blue wool and three large brass KY state seal buttons. A cotton shell pocket opens under these flaps. There are two loops at waist of main coat (to support belt?) with missing buttons. Under the right arm on the sleeve is inscribed "D.F.C. Weller." |

Worn by David Fenimore Cooper Weller, b. 3-1-1843 in Elizabethtown, KY. Served in Co. C, 2nd Ky Infantry, Lewis' Brigade. Following the war, Weller served in the Kentucky State Guard. d. 10-09-1943 in Louisville, KY. |
