Description |
This is a pair of World War II M1940 calvary three-buckle boots with cap toes. These brown leather boots are laced then buckled to secure the boot from the upper ankle to the upper calf. The boots are missing the laces, and the heels of each boot have been replaced. |

This belonged to Ralph Anderson "R. A." Hanks (1926-2016) of Danville, Kentucky. He was born April 8, 1926 in Anderson County to Edwin Clyde and Margaret Hawkins Hanks. He grew up on the family dairy farm with his two siblings, Edwin and Elise. R. A. Hanks was drafted in 1944. He trained as cavalry at Fort Riley Kansas, and he served in the Pacific Theater and was part of the initial occupation force of Japan. After the war, he returned to Anderson County where he married Pauline Gash Hanks. In the mid 1950’s, the family relocated to Danville as part of his job with Unisys (Burroughs). R.A. and Pauline Hanks raised their three sons there. |
