Description |
This is a marble bust of John J. Crittenden. It shows him facing the viewer's left. He has sharp features and his hair is wavy and parted on the proper left side. He is draped in the classical style. An inscription on the reverse of the base reads, "J.T. HART / Sc.'T / 1849." It has a round base, with a square marble slad underneath. Bust |

Joel Tanner Hart (1810 - 1877) was an American sculptor who was born near Winchester, Kentucky. Hart was known for his neo-classic sculpture. He created busts of such prominent men such as Andrew Jackson, Cassius Marcellus Clay, Robert Wickliffe, and Henry Clay. Later in life, Hart moved for Florence, Italy where he spent the remainder of his life. He died in Italy in 1877. His remains were later reinterred in the Frankfort Cemetery. |
