Description |
This is a Kensington embroidered patchwork quilt, "crazy quilt", c. 1885. It is comprised of a variety of fabrics, including velvet, silk, corduroy, political ribbons, and woven materials, some of which are embroidered with floral designs. The main colors within the quilt are reds, pinks and browns, with some greens, purples, and blues scattered throughout. The square sections are approximately 18.5" X 16.5". The back of the quilt is made of a pink cotton material. The top and bottom are bordered with a brown velvet material, while the sides are bordered with the same material used for the back. |

The quilt was made by Miss Elvira Wright of Morganfield, Kentucky for the 1885 Southern Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the winner of the highest award, 'a medal' (the award is 80.35.2). |
