Description |
This white cotton web belt has a brass buckle. The belt has "G.S. COURTNEY" stenciled twice on the inside in black ink. The buckle is a hook style with a rectangle plate and hook at one end and a smaller eye at the other. |

George Selby Courtney was born in Ewing in Fleming County, Ky., in 1911. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1934 and served through 1938. He re-enlisted in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946. At the time of his reenlistment he lived in Louisville, Ky. According to his file, Courtney spent the war as a cook serving inside the U.S. He qualified as a rifle expert and a pistol sharpshooter. |
