Notes |
Melissa Sweet is a Lawrenceburg native who has also lived in Lexington and Louisville. In an effort to foster self sufficiency and instill values Melissa's parents moved the family to a log home where they raised crops, hunted game and captured rainwater for drinking. She also learned to sew at age seven and began designing her own clothing soon after. She attended the Parsons School of Design in New York and Bauder Fashion College in Atlanta. In 1996 she launched her company and not long after bought and began designing for Currie-Bonner for Bridesmaids. Today she is considered one of the foremost designers of wedding dresses and bridesmaids' gowns in the United States. She owns exclusive bridal shops in Atlanta, Denver and has a showroom in New York City. Her creations are characterized by superb craftsmanship, fine fabrics, intricate hand beading, elegant overlays and precise couture fits that flatter the figure. She names her dresses after women instead of giving them style numbers like most designers. Sometimes she names her dresses after specific brides. |
