Description |
This charcoal bust drawing of Amanda Wingate Threlkeld is done on paper glued to a linen backing. This drawing was formerly stretched on a frame. Threlkeld has her left shoulder turned slightly forward, and her face looks slightly toward the left of the drawing. She has dark hair with a center part pulled on top of her head with pin curls hanging in back. She wears a dark bodice with small covered buttons and a white collar with a pin at her throat as well as earrings. |

Amanda Elizabeth Wingate was the daughter of Smith and Mary Todd Wingate. She married James Smith Threlkeld (1832-1874) on October 11, 1854. The couple had a son, Arthur Ellis, on Jan. 29, 1862 in Ghent, KY. They moved to Louisville, where James was a policeman. Following his death in 1874, she moved back to Carroll County, where she died in 1876. |
