This bust portrait is possibly of Bette Buckner of Louisville. The subject is facing 3/4 right and has strawberry blonde hair and grey eyes. She is wearing a circular pearl studded hair ornament and a draped green dress with a lace insert at the bottice. The background is greenish-black. |

The subject is possibly Bette Buckner of Louisville. Nicola Marschall (1829-1917), born in Prussia, immigrated to Alabama in 1849. Credited with designing the first Confederate national flag. He moved to Louisville in 1873 and opened a portrait studio. He was a prolific painter, often traveling to Versailles, Lexington and the south. |
