Description |
This is a State Guard Kepi rain-cover. The rain-cover appears to be canvas that has been covered with a black paint to make it water resistant. |
Notes |
The 1st Cavalry regiment of Kentucky from the period of this cap is nonexistant, except for the unrecognized or federalized units of Cavalry that were organized during the S.A.W. which saw no service. It may be possible that the 1st Ky Inf., Louisville Legion, may have had a "cavalry' company that still wore these. The US Army wore this type of kepi for a short while, about 1896-1902. |
