Description |
This British Dragoon pistol has a 12 inch rounded barrel with proof marks on the top and side. There is a single brass ramrod pipe and a wooden rammer. The piece is a flintlock with a brass trigger guard , brass side piece, and a steel belt hanger. The pistol also has a heavy brass butt cap. The marks on the lock include 'TOWER' and a crown over 'GR,' and a crown over an arrow. |
Notes |
According to family history it was taken by Christopher Lillard (1795-1855) from a British officer in the chase after the battle of the Thames in Oct. 1813. Lillard was a member of Captain Ellerston's mounted infantry during the war. As a member of a reconnaissance party in pursuit of Proctor's men after the Battle of the Thames, he recovered the pistol from a British dragoon. |
