Description |
This is a campaign button for Gen. W.S. Taylor. The button is a celluloid type process with a sepia tone headshot photo of Taylor printed on paper. Taylor is shown looking to his right and wearing a white collared shirt and a dark colored suit. The front has an inscription at the top that says "For Governor", and at the bottom "Gen. W. S. Taylor". The backing has a copper stickpin built into the rim of the tinplate backing. |

William Sylvester Taylor (1853 -1928) was the 33rd Governor of KentuckTaylor was governor of Kentucky. He served from December 12, 1899 to January 31, 1900. He was initially declared the winner of the disputed gubernatorial election of 1899, but the Kentucky General Assembly reversed the election results, giving the victory to his Democratic Party (United States) opponent, William Goebel. Taylor fled the state following his indictment on murder charges in connection with Goebel's assassination. |
