Description |
This is a World War II German Army belt buckle. It is a rectangular shaped, molded aluminum piece. It has a large thick molded D-ring on the back with two prongs on a moveable shaft for attaching to a leather belt. The design is a swastika in a raised circle within a circle. The outer circle has a swag of oak leaves at the bottom, and the inscription "Gott Mit uns" in gothic script at the top. |

William S. Stovall (1922-1998) was an Army Ranger from Lexington who enlisted in February 1941 after a year with the KNG. He fought in North Africa, Italy, and across Europe, receiving the silver star, purple heart, and good conduct medal. He became a master sergeant in 1949 and was discharged. Called back to service as a reservist, he was promoted to 1st Lt. during the Korean War in March 1951. He was promoted to Captain in 1956 and retired in 1961. He was an avid collector of souvenirs from his service. Worn by ranks other than officers by members of the German Army. |
