Description |
This button commemorates the 200th anniversary of Daniel Boone’s birth. It is a celluloid process button with a tan background featuring blue text and an image. The image is of Daniel Boone in a coonskin cap and buckskin clothing. He is cradling a rifle in his left arm. Around the edge of the button the following is printed: "DANIEL BOONE / BICENTENNIAL". The years 1734 and 1934 are printed on either side of the image of Boone. The paper label on the back of the button features the following inscription: "The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Buttons Badges Novelties and Signs Member NRA Newark, NJ". |
Notes |
Kentucky Governor Ruby Lafoon created the Daniel Boone Bicentennial Commision in 1934 to organize celebrations of Boone's 200th birthday. The Commission sold commemorative buttons, ribbons, and souvenir half-dollats to fund its operations and build a monument at Boonesborough. |
