Notes |
James Turner Morehead (1797-1854) was governor of Kentucky from 1834 to 1836. Morehead was John Breathitt's lieutenant governor and finished his term when Breathitt died in office. Like most governors of the period, Morehead supported the construction of better roads, canals, and railways. During his administration the Lexington and Ohio Railroad was extended to the bluffs above Frankfort. Although education was not Morehead's focus, the basics of a uniform school system began during his administration. |
