Description |
This carboard poster has a printed black and white photograph of King Swope wearing a suit and tie. The bottom of the poster has large white text that reads "KING / SWOPE / REPUBLICAN / FOR GOVERNOR, " which is superimposed over the shoulders and chest of Swope's photograph. Under the photograph is a printer's union trademark which reads "Typographical / Union Label / Blue Grass" and has a small black "c" to the right of the logo. |

King Swope was a lawyer and politician from Kentucky. He enlisted during the First World War as a captain of Infantry. He was later elected as the Republican Representative to the Sixty-sixth Congress by special election. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Sixty-seventh Congress in 1920 and was also unsuccessful in attaining the position of Governor of Kentucky in 1935 and 1939. However, he remained active in the political sphere and was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions in 1936, 1940, and 1944. |
