Description |
This is a carver's parting chisel. It has a turned wooden handle with two inscribed lines on the pommel. There is a V-shaped iron blade with a slight curve along its length. |
Notes |
From tool basket of Kate E. Perry Mosher. Mosher was born in Warsaw, Ky., on July 11, 1836. A confederate sympathizer during the war, she was active in veteran's organizations afterwards. After going deaf from meningitis, she took up wood carving and helped found the Covington Art Club in 1877. Her carvings included a complete dining set later used by U.S. Sen. Richard Ernst, carvings for the Trinity Episcopal Church in Covington, and a carved panel exhibited in the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. She died in Covington on April 5, 1926. |
