Description |
This is a machine-stitched wool 48-star national flag of the United States of America, or an American flag. The field is made of thirteen equal horizontal stripes of red (which are at the top and bottom) alternating with white. The rectangular canton is blue with 48 five-pointed white stars arranged in six rows of eight stars. The stars are appliquéd (machine-stitched). The perimeter of the flag is trimmed with gold fringe. There is a set of gold tassels that are separate from the flag. Four sets of bias twill tape ties are on the hoist. |
Notes |
This flag was used by the Franklin County Chapter A.W.M.(American War Mothers). In 1912, the 48 Star American Flag was established through an Executive Order by President Taft. The two new stars on the American Flag were added to accommodate the addition of New Mexico (January 6th, 1912) and Arizona (February 14, 1912). |
