Notes |
This 1872 lithograph from Currier & Ives depicts that last moments of Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. Jackson was accidentally shot by his own men during the Battle of Chancellorsville. He died May 10, 1863. This print was popular and widely sold, and promoted a heroic and sentimental version of events, part of a post-war "Lost Cause" narrative that glorified Confederate figures. |
