Description |
This is a ladderback chair made of maple with oak slats and stretchers. There are two stretchers on the front and on the sides. There is one stretcher in the back. The chair has turned finials on the back posts. There is scoring on all of the legs. |
Notes |
Acquired from the Salt River Baptist Church, near the Anderson-Mercer County line. The chairs were given to the Church c. 1842 by prominent member Matthew Duncan (1817-1899). Duncan was a successful farmer and community leader. Notes in 2000.33 file say Matthew Duncan made chairs for the Salt River Baptist Church. |
