Description |
This black cotton outer bodice has a square collar and hidden buttons down the center opening. The bodice is heavily embroidered and beaded with jet beads down the front, back, sleeves, collar and along all edges. The sleeves wrap around the back meeting at the back side seams. The tail of the bodice has a partially revealed gathered layer with a beaded decoration over top. The decoration has a solid beaded patter with trailing beaded fringe. There are two straps on the inside of the bodice attached at the center back with button holes in the ends. |

This bodice, which may have been altered later for the 20th century, belonged to Miss Sophia Schultz born in 1858 to two German immigrants. Sophia married William Scholl in 1879 and they lived in Louisville, KY. They had three children, two who lived. Catherine (Katie) B. Scholl was born in 1882 and married Frederick Dillman; according to 1910 census records their only daughter at the time was Grace M. Dillman (born 1910), they are listed as residents of Sophia and William Scholl's household. Their son Fred W. Scholl was born 1880, and him and his wife Emma had a son Fred Jr. born in 1905. Fred W. Scholl was drafted for WWII in his 60's while living in Marion, Indiana. |
