Notes |
This wire frying basket was originally used by the donor's great-grandmother, Fannie Alice (Kiser) Smith (1857-1936). She was from Kiserton in Bourbon County. It has stayed in the family for four generations. It was given to the donor by her mother. The frying basket has hung in the homes of Fannie's descendants and was not used because it was "Fannie's basket." Fannie Alice Kiser was born into the Kiser family, one of the early families of Bourbon County. According to the donor, the community referred to Fannie as "Sister Fannie" because she was so helpful and caring. She offered mental and physical support in times of crisis. Fannie's great grandfather, John Kiser, founded Kiser Station/Kiserton in Bourbon County. Five generations of the family lived in Bourbon County. |
