Description |
This is a forged steel carpenter's adz with a rectangular eye. The head is slightly tapered and has a heavy poll. The curved blade flares from the head to a curved beveled edge. The head is painted red from the eye to the poll. The piece has no handle. |
Notes |
An adz used for smoothing a large surface such as a framing timber or a floor. The poll is flat and could be used for driving pegs or light nails. Conventional usage is a chipping or smoothing action roughly between the feet of the user. An unsteady hand or glancing blow could easily result in an injury. |
