Description |
This cityscape looks down St. Clair St. toward the Old State Capitol in the snow. The left side has several buildings as well as a horse and cart. Three figures are depicted including two men shaking hands and a woman with an umbrella. The Old State Capitol is featured in the background. The fountain is in front of the Capitol building and the public square is surrounded by an iron fence. |
Notes |
Although the painting is signed the signature is not correct and the painting appears to be a copy of an actual Sawyier painting called 'The Capital in Winter.' This may have been painted by a member of the Paul Sawyier Art Club that used to meet in the Frankfort Hotel. The Frankfort Hotel was owned by J.J. King, a noted Sawyier Patron, and many of his originals were on display in the hotel. |
