Description |
This is a magazine illustration in black and white wood engraving with the church central to the composition. The church's bell tower has a large stained glass window and is topped with four spires. Along the side of the church are six flying buttresses also topped with spires. There is a couple and young child on the sidewalk along the front of the church. |
Notes |
This illustration appeared in the "Southern Quarterly Review, April 1868, page 40" in Edwards Louisville Directory, 1868. The purpose was to illustrate some of Louisville's most "prominent and remarkable" public buildings according to text on the reverse, page 35, which also has a small illustration of the Louisville skyline with waterfront. The chapter the text derives from is "A Journal of Progress" and the heading is "Appearance of the City." |
