Description |
This certificate is on thin, tan paper. Across the top in fancy script the piece reads "The / Southern Exposition." Under this is a lithograph of the main building at the fair and some of the grounds surrounding it. A bridge-like, geometrical design frames the bottom this image and has the date "1885" printed in the center. At the bottom left of the lithograph is printed "Louisville Lithograph Co." The text of the certificate continues under the image and reads "At Louisville, KY. / This Diploma of Honor is / to certify that the highest award / a Medal / was made to;" this printed text is interrupted by handwritten, cursive script which goes on, "Miss Eliza Wright / Louisville Ky." Printed after this is "for," followed by more handwritten text which reads "Kensington Embroidered Patchwork Quilt. The quilt is one of the finest ever exhibited." Under this, to the left, is a copper colored seal which reads "The Southern Exposition / At Louisville, KY." To the right is printed text which reads "In witness whereof the President has / hereto set his hand and caused the seal / of the Southern Exposition to be placed / hereon at Louisville, Ky U.S.A. / this twentyfourth day of October 1885." Under this are two signatures. The top right signature is of the president and the bottom left is of the secretary. There appears to be some kind of watermark on the piece, across the center, which reads "Linen Ledger." |
