Description |
This locket is made of ivory and horn book halves. The ivory is inlaid with multiple decorative gold pieces and the horn with several decorative silver pieces. The locket has a silver latch and fittings. The inside right of the piece contains a silver trimmed photo of Mary Meglone, with decorative silver pieces. The inside left of the piece has indentation with a gray wool piece, the image of Whitney Meglone was stolen in 1995. The piece is inscribed "From Whitney Meglone to his sister Mary Meglone July 4th 1864" and "Camp Douglas". |

This locket was sent from Whitney Meglone to his sister Mary Meglone on July 4, 1864, while Whitney was a prisoner of war at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois. Whitney Meglone served with Basil Duke's 2nd Kentucky Cavalry. |
