This is a horse illustration pulled from the Illustrated American Horse Book, Livestock Publishing Co., Chicago, 1878. The illustration shows a long and lean horse standing in a grassy plot of land with small bushes in the background. The image is captioned "Mambrino Patchen. /Owned by Dr. L. Herr, Lexington, Ky." Just below the image, in the lower right corner, is a signature of the artist that reads "Dierson (?) SC.NY" The back of the page is numbered 248. And has two paragraphs with the following captions, "Preliminary Directions for the Use of Weights." and "Amount of Weight to Use." |

Mabrino Patchen Owned by Dr. L. Herr, Lexington, Ky. His sire was Mambrino Chief, whose sire was Mambrino Paymaster, whose sire was Mambrino, whose sire was Messenger, the horse brought from England in 1788. |
