Notes |
The United Daughters of the Confederacy was the outgrowth of many local memorial, monument, and Confederate home associations and auxiliaries to camps of United Confederate Veterans that were organized after the Civil War. Founded in 1894, it consists of women 16 and up who can prove direct descent from men or women who served the Confederate States of America during the U.S. Civil War. SOURCE: http://www.hqudc.org/about_udc/index.htm The Commonwealth of Kentucky purchased the former Villa Ridge Inn in Pewee Valley to serve as a retirement home for Confederate veterans in 1902. The Confederate Home burned in 1920 and was finally closed in 1934. |
