Description |
This is a State of Alabama 100 dollar note, January 1, 1864 issue, plate G. The serial number is illegible (2_1__?). It is located on the left side on edge and was hand written in ink. The central image is a group of Native Americans with a warrior at center and a fire on the right. In both upper corners is a corner decoration, though they are different from each other. In the upper left corner is a patterned oval with a Roman numeral "C" over it in white. Below this is "RECEIVABLE IN PAYMENT OF ALL TAXES AND PUBLIC DUES." To the right of this is the plate letter. An image of a tree with a map hanging from it is in the lower left corner. On the top edge at center is inscribed "Montgomery / 1st Jan, 1864/ No." Below the central images is inscribed "THE STATE OF ALABAMA / Will pay ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS to Bearer / Redeemable in CONFEDERATE TREASURY NOTES or in FIVE / PER CENT. COUPON BONDS of the State at the option of the State." Below this is the signature of the comptroller and treasurer. On the bottom edge are the makers' marks "Engraved by W. Keenan & Co. / Lith & Printed by J.T. Paterson & Co., Augusta, Ga." In the upper right corner is a patterned circle with a white number "100" in it and surrounded by floral decoration. In the lower left corner is an image of a Native American woman and child. The reverse is decorated in green ink with a patterned circle in each corner containing the Roman numeral "C." A border design connects the upper circles and then another on the lower circles. On the left and right is an architectural leaf design. The area between these has a green background. In the center is a patterned circle with the number "100" in it. Above the circle is a white ribbon with "ONE HUNDRED" on it and below the circle is another ribbon with "DOLLARS" on it. To the left of the circle is "STATE OF." and on the right "ALABAMA." The names of the makers is inscribed at the bottom in green ink. This note was torn in to at center and repaired before donation. |
