Description |
This is a beige participant's ribbon from the Thirteenth Reunion of the First Kentucky Orphan Brigade, C.S.A., held in Russellville, Kentucky on September 4, 1894. The silk ribbon has dark blue text that reads, "ORPHAN BRIGADE / 13TH REUNION / SEPTEMBER 4, 1894, / RUSSELLVILLE, KY. / Comrade." The center features a waving Confederate flag, in red, white, and blue on a flagpole with two tasseled ropes suspended from the apex. The flagpole has a finial. The flag has two red horizontal stripes on either side of a white one and a blue field in the upper left corner with seven white five-pointed stars. Above and below the lettering are horizontal borders consisting of three horizontal lines, a row of dots, and three more lines that are horizontal situated above and below these are small circular decorative motifs. |

The Confederate First Kentucky Brigade, nicknamed the Orphan Brigade, included the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 9th Kentucky Infantry regiments and Cobb’s, Byrne’s and Graves’s batteries of artillery, and, at times, the 3rd and 5th Kentucky Infantry. |
