Description |
This is a man's black beaver top hat with a wide black silk grosgrain band. The brim is edged in silk grosgrain. The underbrim of is covered in black wool. The interior of the hat has a brown leather band and cream silk lining. The lining at the top is made of watered silk and has a printed label that reads, "EXTRA QUALITY/ JOHN WANAMAKER /At the Sign of / The Best Hat / PHILADELPHIA - NEW YORK / PARIS." The label has a lion and unicorn crest located below the words "Extra Quality." |

This item was donated through the estate of Hazel M. Dahringer of Lebanon, Ky., in 1979. Her husband, John F. Dahringer, was a historian and collected a wide variety of historical material through his lifetime. At the time of donation, no items were identified as belonging to a family member. |
