Description |
This is a celluloid type political button that was created in opposition to the re-election of Bill Clinton in 1996. The button features a white background with a color photo of Hillary Clinton that has been altered so that her hair is cut short and dyed red, orange and yellow; similar to that of Chicago Bulls player Dennis Rodman. The inscription on the button is red, blue and white; with Clinton's first and last name in red, the false middle name in blue, and the accompanying text in white. The text reads, "Hillary RODMAN Clinton / As Bad As / She Wants / To Be". The bottom edge of the button contains the inscription, "BOLD CONCEPTS 212-764-6330" in black. On the lower proper right edge there is a union label. The back is metal with a safety pin style closure. |
Notes |
Hillary Rodham Clinton, wife of President Bill Clinton (1993-2000), became the subject of frequent attacks from the right for her liberal views. Here she is compared to the outrageous behavior of Chicago Bulls star Dennis Rodman, infamous for neon hair, cross dressing, and makeup. The inscription at the bottom of the button is a reference to Rodman's book, "Bad As I Want To Be" according to Bold Designs President Mort Berkowitz. This button was referenced by Hillary Clinton during the 1996 National Democratic Convention. |
