Description |
This is an illustration clipping from the Harper's Weekly, February 25, 1860 edition. The illustration is a wood engraving entitled "The Steamer 'Pacific.'-[See Page 123.]" It shows a large steamboat plowing through the wave waters. On its side it reads "New Orleans & Louisville/ Packet/ Pacific." The steamboat has a small triangular flag with two pints and many stripes hanging from a pole on its point. There are two large black smokestacks spewing dark smoke on its front as well. In the center of the steamboat, there are two smaller smoke-stacks spewing white smoke. On the lower level, there appears to be barrels or other round objects on the deck with people walking in front of them. Silhouettes of people are walking around the upper decks as well. Below the image appears to be evidence of two more engravings and a cut off poem. On the backside of the paper there is a four columned article. |
