Description |
This is a circular celluloid-type political button from Kentucky's Inauguration Day held on December 13, 1983. The button is from the "Democrats Together 83" campaign and celebrates the inauguration of eight Democratic candidates. The top half of the button has a black background with eight white circles, each with a political candidate's face and surname printed along the bottom. Six of the circles are arranged along the edge, and there are two larger circles arranged in the center that overlap one another. These two center circles depict Martha Layne Collins (Governor) and Steve Beshear (Lieutenant Governor). The other candidates depicted in the white circles along the edge of the button are Dave Boswell, Frances Jones Mills, Drex Davis, Alice McDonald, Dave Armstrong, and Mary Ann Tobin. The bottom half of the button has a white background with the words "DEMOCRATS-TOGETHER 83" printed through the center in bold, capitalized text with a line beneath the lettering. There is a black silhouette of a rooster facing toward the right printed in the lower center of the button with the text "INAUGURATION DAY / DECEMBER 13, 1983" printed above and below the image. The back of the button is made of tinplate and has a safety pin-style closure. |
