Description |
This wooden storage box is part of a chaplain's communion set used by the 138th Field Artillery. It consists of a wooden box with a brass handle, hinges and locks. The box is lined with brown felt. The lid has a red ribbon with gold text that reads, "THE GORHAM CO. / FIFTH AVE. / NEW YORK." The box has four compartments designed to house a communion chalice, two pitchers, and a communion plate. |
Notes |
This communion set was used by the chaplain of the 1st Kentucky Infantry, later the 138th Field Artillery, Kentucky National Guard during the 1930's and 1940's. The set was given to the regiment by the Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville, Kentucky. The set was then given to Col. George M. Chescheir while he was commander of the 138th before World War II. |
