Description |
This is an Army issued map compass. It is a clear plastic compass with rulers for varying the map scales along the edge. It has a built-in magnifier and a rotating directional bezel with a red north arrow marked in degrees. There is a suspended magnetic rod painted half red and half black-- the red indicates magnetic north. There is luminescent paint on the alignment dots, directional arrow, bezel arrow, and the tip of red half of magnetic rod. There is a red cotton lanyard attached and it is stored in a clear plastic Ziploc bag with white label. |

This item is stored in pouch (2002.43.5). Sgt. Peter M. Angelove from La Grange, KY served in the West Virginia National Guard 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne). The 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) was deployed to Afghanistan on the 12th of December 2001. This deployment was part of the operations in Afghanistan following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11, 2001. |
