Description |
This is a Grand Army of the Republic National Officer's badge. The piece has a rectangular brass pin at the top with a black background on the face. A brass eagle is applied to the surface. A ribbon is suspended from the pin and it has a buff border on the ribbon with an American flag pattern in the center. A star shaped medallion is suspended from the ribbon, The points of the stars have symbols representing different military units/branches such as an anchor, crossed rifles, etc. In the center is a seal with two figures shaking hands in front of Liberty. In front of those two figures is a nealing woman and a child. Surrounding the seal is the inscription "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC/ 1861 VETERAN 1866." The reverse has a federal shield in the center with a number of other symbols radiating out in a circular pattern. |
