Notes |
This dress belonged to Lillian Katherine (Giebel) Bleyle. Lillian Katherine (Giebel) Bleyle (8 Jun 1875 - 26 Jul 1948) was a lifelong resident of Campbell County. She was the daughter of Conrad Giebel (1843 - 30 Jul 1917) and Carolina "Lena" (Haberstitch) Giebel (1846-1926). Lillian had a brother named Albert (1879-1958). According to 1910 and 1920 US Census records, Conrad Giebel was born in Baden and later immigrated to the United States. Lena was born in Bavaria and immigrated to the United States in 1868, and she became a naturalized citizen in 1884. Conrad Giebel owned and operated a wholesale sale company called Conrad Giebel Co. The company was located at 57 Walnut Street in Cincinnati. His son, Albert, worked as a day laborer in his 20s, and later became the bookkeeper for his father's wholesale business. After his Conrad's death, Albert became business partners with his brother-in-law, Charles Bleyle. Lillian married Charles Bleyle (19 Aug 1873 - 27 Dec 1953). Born in Newport, Kentucky, Charles was the son of Roman Felician Bleyle (1826-1892) and Maria Katharina (Walters) Bleyle (1837-1900). His parents were born in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. The Bleyle family immigrated to the Newport, Kentucky region where they raised their family. The 1910 census states that Charles Bleyle worked as a collar maker at a saddlery. Later, he became the owner of his father-in-law's business, Conrad Giebel Co. Lillian and Charles Bleyle had one son, Carl (1902-1992). Carl and his wife, Kathryn Racke Bleyle, married in 1931 and lived in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Carl and Kathryn donated this collection to the Kentucky Historical Society. |
