Description |
This two piece creme silk ballgown has a bodice (part a) with a wide scoop neck and short pleated sleeves that are open at the top to drape forward and back. The bodice has a V shape at the lower center front and center back. The center front closure has 17 hooks and eyes and there are 17 strips of boning to hold the shape. The front facings are feather stitched to a linen lining. There is a twill waist tape with a single hook and eye closure. The front of the bodice has six tucks on each side of the closure. The tucks are stitched down about half way up the bodice. The fabric is tightly gathered to facing at neck. This was probably covered with lace as thread remnants show where something was removed. The back of the bodice is in three pieces. The main section is in the center of the back with two side panels. Part B: the skirt is made of the same fabric. It has a flat front and there are two darts at waist with two small gores at the bottom. The side panels have two darts at the waist with a larger gore at the bottom next to the back panel. The back consists of four panels gathered very tightly to waistband. There is a hook and eye closure at the center back. The skirt is fully lined with polished cotton and has a velvet dust band ( or faux hem) and cording at the hem. |
