Description |
This is a Kuwait Liberation Medal (Naut Tahrir al-Kuwait) that was issued by the Government of Saudi Arabia. The medal (part a) has a silk ribbon, with a striped color pattern of red, black, white, green, white, black and red. The medal has a silver tone sun burst under the bronze coat of arms of Saudi Arabia. There is a gold figure in the shape of the country of Saudi Arabia. There is a gold toned palm and crossed swords on the ribbon. The medal has an inscription in English and Arabic that reads "Liberation of Kuwait." Part b is the matching ribbon bar with a striped ribbon in red, black, white, green, white, black and red. In the center of the ribbon bar is a brass palm tree and crossed swords. The medal and ribbon are in a green cardboard box (part c) with a brass clasp. The boxs has an inscription in English and Arabic that reads "Kingdom of Saudi Arabia." |

This medal was sent to the Kentucky Historical Society by the Don F. Pratt Memorial Museum on behalf of SPC Kelly Withers. The Naut Tahrir al-Kuwait, also known as the Kuait Liberation Medal or Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait, was instituted by King Fahd ibn Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia for service during the Liberation of Kuwait campaign. The Saudi Arabian version of the Kuwait Liberation Medal is awarded to members of the Coalition Forces who participated in Operation Desert Storm and the liberation of Kuwait between the dates of January 17, 1991 and February 28, 1991. |
