Description |
This is a mottled red "strawberry" glazed slipcast sugar bowl with lid. There is a clear overglaze on the pieces with the bottom of the base of the bowl and the underside of the lid left unglazed. The middle of the knob on the lid (part B) is hollow. The opening on the inside of lid was taped inside by the owner. The bowl (part A) has raised foot on the base and a shelf inside the rim of the bowl that supports the lid. There are surface imperfections on the inside bottom of the bowl that are original. |
Notes |
Eb Stone, formerly of Rookwood Pottery, was a potter who married Walter Cornelison's sister and bought out the Griggs and Grinstead Pottery in Waco, Kentucky. The donor and her first husband, Bob Limoges, tried to sell Stone's pottery in a Chicago suburb in 1933, hoping to capitalize on the World's Fair. Her mother, Ida Chaney Alcorn, sold Bybee pottery from her home on Route 60 east of Louisville from the late 1920s through the 1950s. |
