Description |
This is a 149th Armored Brigade distinctive unit insignia pin. It is a shield with a banner and enameled in blue, green, and yellow. There is a serpent in the center with an "X" behind it. Inscribed at the bottom is "Esto Perpetua." |
Notes |
This pin belonged to the 149th Armor Brigade. The Brigade was originally formed in Louisville, Kentucky in January 1839 in the Kentucky Militia known as the Louisville Legion. They were mustered into federal service in May 1846 as the 1st Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The group was reorganized in 1860 in the Kentucky State Guard as the 1st Infantry Regiment, and the Louisville Battalion and the Marion Rifle Battalion joined. They were mustered into service during the Civil War in September 1861. As this time, they were known as the 5th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment. They were drafted into federal service during World War I, in August 1917. In November 1980, the group was known as the 149th Armored Brigade. |
