Description |
This is a Nazi SS kepi or cap badge. It is a light weight metal with a stamped, hollow construction. The badge is an eagle with outstretched wings, holding a wreath with a swastika in the center. It has two brass clutches soldered to the back. |
Notes |
William S. Stovall (1922-1998) was an Army Ranger from Lexington who enlisted in February 1941 after a year with the KNG. He fought in North Africa, Italy, and across Europe, receiving the silver star, purple heart, and good conduct medal. He became a master sergeant in 1949 and was discharged. Called back to service as a reservist, he was promoted to 1st Lt. during the Korean War in March 1951. He was promoted to Captain in 1956 and retired in 1961. He was an avid collector of souvenirs from his service. |
