These are two Drexell R. Davis fixed fans (a and b) that are made of white cardboard and have red text. The cardboard has rounded top corners and square bottom corners. The cardboard is attached to a thin wooden handle with rounded ends by two metal staples. There is a red rooster printed in the center of each fan. Fan a reads, "A Candidate / to / Crow About / Drex Davis / for / State Treasurer / 1979." Fan b reads, "A Candidate / to / Crow About / Drex Davis / for / Secretary of State / 1983." At the bottom right corners of both fans is printed "Paid for by Drex Davis Campaign Fund, Joan Rush, Treas." At the bottom left of both fans is a small printer's union trademark which is oval shaped and has the initials "ENI" inside. Text to the right of this union mark reads "Harp Enterprises, Inc., Lexington, Kentucky." |
Notes |
Drexell R. Davis, a self-described "Yellow Dog" Democrat, held several elected positions in the Kentucky state government. His thirty-three years of public service prompted his interest in collecting political memorabilia. Davis' last elective office was Secretary of State of Kentucky, which he won in 1983. This piece is part of a collection Mr. Davis donated over twenty years to the Kentucky Historical Society. |
