This is page 218 from Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, April 12, 1890 edition. The image depicts two images with the caption, "The appalling calamity in Louisville, KY.-two of its striking scenes. / From Photos by W. Stuber & Bro.-[See Page 221.]" The top image shows men in overcoats walking around the disaster scene. Some are rummaging through the rubble. In the background one can see buildings that have lost their roofs or have collapsed altogether. The image is captioned, "Ruins of Falls City Hall.-Scene of the Principal loss of life." The bottom image shows another large disaster scene. In this image hoards of men appear to be staring at massive piles of boards and other rubble. They are surrounded by still standing buildings with lost roofs. The image is captioned, "Scene on the corner of Eighth and Main Streets." On the backside is page 217 and the page is filled with various articles with articles about fighting Russia and one entitled "At Home and Abroad." |
