This black and white lithographic print features a bust of William Goebel in the center surrounded by a laurel wreath. Under the image and attached to the wreath is a banner which reads "Hon. William Goebel, / of Kentucky / 'Our Martyred Governor' / Died Feb. 3rd 1900 / Tell my friends to / be brave and fearless / and loyal to the great / Common people." There are two American flags behind the wreath, one on each side, along with several ribbons. On the left of the wreath is a banner which reads "Assassinated at Frankfort, KY. Jan. 30th 1900." A similar banner on the right side of the wreath reads "Sworn in as Governor Jan. 31st 1900." In each of the four corners of the poster are different sketched scenes. The top right shows the capital building with people and horses out front and is captioned "The Capitol." The bottom right shows a room full of people and Goebel's coffin in the center of the room with the caption "Lying in State." The bottom left scene is of the assassination of Goebel just outside the capitol building with the caption "The Assassination." The top left sketch is of a horse and rider out front of a building with the caption "The Governor's Mansion." |
