This is a jacket from an U.S. Marine Corps uniform. It is green wool, has a four-button front, and plastic buttons. It also has green on red single chevrons on each shoulder. |

Private First Class Chadwick O. Burns (1929-1950) was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade. He was Killed in Action while taking Hill Chindong-ni, South Korea, Korea on August 8, 1950 by enemy shrapnel. He had been in Korea only 7 days. Burns joined the Marine Corps in 1948 after serving in the Kentucky National Guard. He was the first citizen from Franklin County, Kentucky, to be killed in the Korean War. The collection was donated by his mother, Viola Burns. Private First Class Burns was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. |
