Description |
This rug is made of crocheted plastic bread bags. It is a small round rug woven carefully to form thin circular patterns based on the coloration of the bags. White circles radiate inward with one turquoise blue circle near the center. The reds, yellows, and whites of the printed bags create an overall speckled appearance. Yellow is the dominant color. There is also a hole at the center |
Notes |
The two items in this donation were made by Anna Kate Wells Keeton (b. 1918) in the 1970s. Anna was from Cumberland County, near Bakerton, and made them for the donor and her sister to play with. Anna lived on a farm. During the Great Depression, Anna used a variety of reusable materials in her handwork and these items are made along those same lines. They show the continued influence of the depression mentality of "waste not, want not" and the maker's continued use of skills learned in the 1930s. |
